Paper is a sustainable and renewable product.  It has served us well as a means of communication for many centuries and it retains carbon throughout it’s use and continues to do so when recycled.   Although most of us are using paper less these days it is still sometimes the most practical, economic and sustainable option for many products and uses.

Here’s a summary of popular paper types:

80gsm – Standard paper weight for printing documents comprising text on their own or with images for single-sided printing.  For day to day use in the printing reports, business stationery and college and university dissertations and thesis.

90gsm – Good paper weight for double-sided printing as there is less show through and gives a document a more substantial feel.

100gsm – The paper of choice for business stationery, CVs and resumes to give a document a quality feel.

120/130gsm – Printing of leaflets, flyers and posters and can be supplied in matt, silk or glossy finishes.

150/160gsm – lightweight paper/cardstock for leaflets, flyers and posters.  Also available in matt, silk or glossy finishes.

200gsm – Mid-weight card for producing quality leaflets and posters plus tickets, invitations etc.

250gsm – Heavier cardstock for invitations, tickets, booklet covers, orders of service etc.

350gsm – for standard business cards, greetings cards, postcards etc.

450gsm – most often used for quality business cards.

By choosing matt, satin or glossy finishes you can enhance the feel, texture and smell of your product – paper is something that helps us to engage more deeply and for longer.    Worth bearing in mind next time we are flicking through a glossy brochure or curled up with a good book.
